Step into the college dance studio.

This two-day workshop takes an interdisciplinary approach to dance training, engaging students in a diversity of dance forms, creative processes, and critical inquiry. The program offers technique classes in Ballet, Modern, Embodied Africanist Aesthetics, and Jazz. Beyond the studio, students explore the intellectual foundations that deepen their understanding of dance as both an artform and a multifaceted field of study.  Through courses in Dance & Cultural History, Stagecraft, Anatomy, and Somatic Awareness, students learn to connect embodied practice with critical thinking, research, and reflection.

This program is ideal for dedicated dancers eager to experience college-level training and pursue dance as a major. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your technique, expand your range across multiple styles, or deepen your understanding of dance as both an art form and academic discipline, this workshop offers a comprehensive glimpse into conservatory-style training within a liberal arts environment. Led by accomplished faculty from Marymount Manhattan College’s Dance Department, this summer workshop offers high school dancers the opportunity to train alongside peers who share their passion and commitment to the art form.

Schedule

Each day begins at 9:30 a.m. with check-in, then students dive into a full schedule of training from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After classes wrap, join us for a reception where students and parents can connect with alumni, ask questions about college dance programs, and get an insider’s perspective on pursuing dance at the next level. Weekend tours offer a chance to explore the facilities and envision yourself as part of this vibrant dance community.

The Dance Workshop allowed me to fully immerse myself in the program’s training and culture. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and inspired by the positive, uplifting energy of both the faculty and dancers. The experience gave me a perfect glimpse into what the dance program has to offer and ultimately played a big role in my decision to attend. Many of the friends I made that summer are still by my side today as juniors — a reflection of the lasting community this program builds.”

Carmen, past program participant

The dance workshop introduced me to the technical rigor and academic principles of the dance program. We had the privilege to connect with faculty, students, and alumni who provided helpful insight on the expectations and experiences of a dance major. I also had the opportunity to connect with other students in the same position of choosing a college path that aligned with their needs and values, and created lasting friendships in the process!”
